Our History HISTORY OF ST. ALEXIUS COLLEGE (formerly The Doctors’ Clinic and Hospital School Foundation Inc.) Inspired by their desire to help people, Dr. Arturo Pasaporte Pingoy, Sr. and Dr. Amparo Yusay-Pingoy established The Doctors’ Clinic and Hospital, Inc. in 1961. The driving force for this initiative was the vision of the founding couple to provide quality medical care and services to the people of South Cotabato and neighboring provinces. In response to the need of the people of South Cotabato and to improve quality of life, The Doctors’ Clinic and Hospital, Inc. became The Doctors’ Clinic and Hospital School of Midwifery in 1971. In the same year, the School of Midwifery was opened with 52 students, becoming the First School of Midwifery in the Province of South Cotabato. To date, the Midwifery Program has produced close to 2500 graduates, with Board Topnotchers, and had been providing almost 85% of Registered Midwives in Health Centers and Hospitals in SOCSKSARGEN area. In 1989, a 1-year Health Aide Program was opened, and the following year, 1990, the 2-year Nursing Aide Program was offered to cater to non-qualifiers for College degrees and to Out-of-School Youth (OSY) and working students to help them enrich their lives and become productive members of the society. Consistent with the government’s goal of providing quality, relevant and accessible education, The Doctors’ Clinic and Hospital School Foundation, Inc. offered the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program in June, 1991. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program was granted government recognition in 1996 and has produced almost 600 graduates serving the manpower needs of health centers and hospitals around the country and abroad. The assumption of Dr. Nanette Pingoy-Franco as Executive Vice-President paved the way for The Doctors’ Clinic and Hospital School Foundation, Inc. to strengthen its institutional development programs and play an active role in Mindanao, particularly in South Cotabato. Institutional priorities were laid down and efforts to develop and implement relevant and responsive educational programs gained momentum. Much emphasis was given in Continuing Professional Development which made provision for support to faculty and staff for graduate studies and attendance to seminars, workshops and conferences. Along this line, efforts were made possible to strengthen the Community Extension Services and to revitalize the Doctors’ Clinic and Hospital School Foundation, Inc. Alumni Association. With the rapid developments in technology and their impact on education and learning, the succeeding years saw the significant development of the institution in terms of infrastructure and physical facilities: the construction of Amparo Yusay-Pingoy (AYP) building, the Science Laboratories, the Library Resources, the Computer Laboratory, the Instructional Media Center, the Nursing Skills Laboratories, and all other Medical Scien
