• Position Description – Remote Accountant / Bookkeeper


    We are a growing bookkeeping and payroll company in Sydney, focussing mainly on a client base of small businesses and churches. We have expanded consistently over the last 2-3 years and are looking for a more comprehensive level of team and administrative support so that the business can keep growing in both quality and quantity.

    The position will suit someone who is very experienced with both people and systems, and would like to settle into a wonderful team and grow with the business.


    • Managing incoming emails and tasks (triage)

    • Daily schedule management

    • Client / team meetings and communications

    • Advanced processing of bookkeeping and accounting:

    o Payables

    o Receivables

    o Reconciliations

    o System checks

    o Journals

    o Reports

    o File repairs and rebuilds

    o Backlog projects

    o GST

    o Other miscellaneous

    • Advanced payroll processing:

    o System set up

    o New employee set up

    o Pay item and template configuration

    o Read and interpret employment awards

    o PAYG

    o Superannuation

    o Salary sacrifice

    o Other miscellaneous

    • Ad-hoc admin tasks

    Skills / Qualities

    • Essential

    o Systems and procedures – think logically and systematically about procedures and workflows; quickly learn and fully understand new software; excellent navigation of computer systems; very focussed eye for detail and accuracy; able to follow complex written procedures exactly

    o People support and management – bright, friendly and engaging demeanour; well presented and appropriately confident; able to effectively manage conflict and difficulty; demonstrated ability to train others effectively; able to listen effectively and move a conversation constructively; enjoys teamwork and comradery

    o Written English – very high level, able to produce documentation, easy to read, well structured and grammatically correct; excellent email etiquette

    o Spoken English – high conversational level both for video conferencing and phone, excellent rapport-building ability

    o Bookkeeping / Accounting / Payroll – advanced, accurate and compliant; able to spot errors and problem solve; able to research and develop solutions to difficult bookkeeping or admin issues

    o Diligence and proactiveness – cares about our business and client’s businesses as if they were your own; looks for opportunities to make a client happy; genuine concern for keeping accuracy, schedules and timelines

    o Flexibility – able to work in with team requirements with an optimistic attitude; willing to adjust plans and schedules as needed; able to switch constantly between multiple different tasks seamlessly without losing track or leaving items incomplete.

    o Xero expertise to advisor level

    o Complex payroll experience

    o Australian GST / BAS experience

    o Advanced Microsoft Excel

    The assessment of the candidates will be done primarily on the essential criteria. The highly desirable criteria will distinguish candidates but will not be a substitute for the essential criteria

    Home-Base Setup

    To be eligible for the position, there are some minimum requirements for your home-base setup:

    • Clean, safe, ergonomic workspace

    • Quiet and distraction-free environment

    • Own computer/laptop with:

    o Operating system no more than three years old

    o Current subscription to major anti-virus protection (e.g. Norton)

    o Current subscription to major malware protection (e.g. Malware bites)

    o Exclusive use of employee (no other users)

    o Reliable camera, microphone and sound (for video conferencing)

    o Login fully password protected

    o Secure storage and access

    • Internet connection with:

    o Minimum 10 MB/second reliable download speed

    o Minimum 2 MB/second reliable upload speed

    Days and Hours

    The structure of the workload for team members is a combination of planning, schedule management, and flexibility. Work is contract based and operates on a monthly cycle. New recruits will generally start with an initial workload under a probationary period, with a view to developing into a fuller workload in the standard contract and payment arrangements. this position is:
